Press Reviews

This CD is quite different from most of the punk stuff I get these days.
I'm sure this is mostly due to the fact that these guys don't seem to try so hard
at being punks, but they concentrate pretty hard on writing fun music. Their brand
of energetic rock'n'roll with catchy bass and guitar riffs reminds me of some of
the poppier songs from The Clash's first couple of albums mixed up with some Buddy Holly.
It would be easy for me to just file this under "pop-punk", but there's so much
more to this band that makes them stand far araprt from the rest of the crowd.
The more I listen to this CD the more it grows on me, especially the songs
"Real Rhythm" and "Not Dead Yet". For more info, go to the Melted Records Homepage

Sit down, pull up a chair and grab that notebook kid, because this shit is rock and roll 101 Radio
Zero play Clash-y rock, punky in nature, but tuneful, energetic, well played and delivered with
spirit! Remember spirit? It's what shines through when people are inspired about playing, and do
it because they want to, not because they need to, but because they have a fire burning deep inside
and they are going to get these fucking songs out if it fucking kills them. Radio Zero it won't kill,
but a lesser band it might.

All the rolling basslines (no "Root Note Ralph" in this band, the bassist is magnificent), rhythmic
rhythm guitar, backing vocals, and wonderful drum parts are making me want to say, "Hey,
these must be out-takes from a Rancid session" and they very well could be some demos
for...And 0ut Come the Wolves. Demos, you say. Why yes l say, demos, because these guys
probably can't yet afford, or may not even want, a fancy studio and even fancier producers, but
when and if they do, be prepared like a Boy Scout, because they'll be taking the lead.

What goes around comes around, sometimes with a vengeance. Recalling the early days of punk,
long before "revolt" became a corpo rate sound byte, Radio Zero delivers a sense of urgency that
can't be denied. Looking toward a generation of anti-slackers and providing a sense of positive
aggression, their angst driven live show make it a reality. Catch them live at Spiral on Monday, April 24th

The first half of "Overdose" kinda had me worried. I'd noticed the forming of a buzz about NY's
Radio Zero here in Boston and wanted to check them out. The first few seconds told me: "Ah,
the bassist had a heavy hand in the production." It's a swell bass line and all, but jeez, it's upfront.
By songs two and three Radio Zero hit their stride, and they rocked out for the rest of the
six-song disc. The lead vocals, by Christian Fall, can get as gravelly as Rancid's, or as melodic
and tough as British punk of the 80s, kinda like The Clash sans accent. Musically, Radio Zero
usually stay in the mid-tempo punk 'n' roll genre, but they toss in some 50s style and a ska riff or
two to break it up. Radio Zero is still an unsigned local band, thus escaping the overproduction of
the punk-of-the-month club. That's a nice way of saying "great production for a local band." The
snare is too dry and tight, but the vocals compensate for just about any criticism I can throw out.
Springstein wishes he could sound so gritty and honest. Well written, catchy as shit songs,
performed with precision and passion. So that's what the buzz was about...
